Vee-Wire Scallop

Johnson Screens® Vee-Wire® scallops serve as an efficient solution to introduce inlet process fluid into radial flow reactors. They feature faster and simpler installation and maintenance compared with single large outer screen baskets.

Fabricated by welding V-shaped profile wire and support rods, these scallops effectively resist bending, twisting and collapse. Such essential properties withstand extreme loads generated by thermal expansion under cyclic high-temperature operation. Buckling damage commonly occurring during installation of relatively high reactors can be fully eliminated with our Vee-Wire scallops. The screens allow effortless maintenance after installation, and the exclusive slot design effectively prevents clogging.

The product delivers distinctive operational merits. Vertical slots enable catalysts to slide freely vertically without abrasion. The minimum slot opening reaches 0.012 inch / 0.3 mm, capable of retaining fine catalyst particles.

Despite narrow slot dimensions, the scallop structure provides larger total open area than single large outer screen baskets or perforated baskets of equivalent size. Increased open area reduces process pressure drop and elevates operational efficiency.

Johnson Screens may supply Vee-Wire scallops in customized width, length and various metal alloy materials.
